Natural and man-made lights brighten the night sky in Iceland. The blue pillar is the Imagine Peace Tower (Friðarsúlan) light installation by Yoko Ono (a memory for John Lennon). Reykjavik lights shimmer on the horizon. These modern lights compete in brilliance with stars and auroras of the “old world”.
I took the photo on my trip to Iceland in late 2019. On the very last night of my stay there was a vivid aurora storm, so I drove to the outskirts of Reykjavik to watch and photograph it. The light of Friðarsúlan added a special twist to this magnificent display.
