Established in 2022 at SKEMA Business School, the SKEMA Centre for Sustainability Studies (SCSS) is a forward-looking research centre dedicated to understanding how business can be a force for good in the world.
SKEMA Business School is a state-recognised, graduate-level institution governed as a non-profit association under French law (1901). Founded in 2009 through the merger of ESC Lille and Ceram Business School, SKEMA's mission is to develop high-achieving students and practitioners who drive sustainable organisational performance through innovation, technical expertise, and a cross-disciplinary, international mindset.
The SCSS brings together scholars from human resource management, organisational behaviour, entrepreneurship, economics, and sociology to produce rigorous, inter- and trans-disciplinary research at the intersection of business and sustainability. Our work spans three core areas:
Diversity, Inclusity and Social Justice — We explore diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing, examining how organisations can foster equitable and healthy environments that benefit both individuals and society.
Environmental Stewardship — We investigate corporate social responsibility, sustainable business models, and the ecosystems and partnerships that accelerate the transition to a greener economy — from solar and wind energy to electric vehicles, organic food, biomass, and biofuels.
Digitalisation for Sustainability — We analyse the complex relationship between digital technologies and sustainability, recognising that digitalisation offers powerful tools to address environmental and social challenges while also introducing new risks to a sustainable society.
Rooted in our local communities and committed to real-world impact, we translate our research into actionable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and educators — contributing to both theoretical advancement and meaningful change on the ground.
