Indian Maritime University

The Indian Maritime University (IMU), a teaching-cum-affiliating University under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India, established through an Act of Parliament in 2008 as a Central University, plays a key role in the development  of trained human resource for the maritime sector in India, transforming raw energy and minds of young students into the professionals fit for challenges posed by oceans.

It is set up to promote maritime studies, training, research and extension with focus on emerging areas like oceanography, maritime history, maritime laws, maritime security, search and rescue, transportation of dangerous cargo, environmental studies and other related fields, and to achieve excellence in these areas.

IMU is headquartered at Chennai and has campuses at Chennai, Mumbai Port, Navi Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi and Visakhapatnam. It also encompasses under its fold 17 private Maritime Training Institutes/Colleges which are affiliated to IMU. IMU is committed to providing quality maritime education, training and research that are responsive to industry needs.

IMU offers under-graduation, post-graduation and doctoral studies in various maritime fields through its four schools spread over at six campuses across India.
