UTromsø Creating New Environment for Arctic Literature Research
Tromsø, Norway - The University of Tromsø has received a 7 million kroner grant from the Research Council of Norway to build an academic milieu for research on arctic literature.
Literature on the Arctic/Antarctic in English, Nordic Languages, Sami, Finnish, Russian and German and the ways in which the north has been understood will be analysed and debated. The purpose of the project is to oppose stereotypes about the North.
The project is international, and started with an international symposium in 2005. However, the project period will be 2006-2009. The initiators are Anka Ryall, Henning Howlid Waerp and Johan Schimanski.
