The Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, Halldór Ásgrímsson, was speaking at a theme conference on climate changes in Flensborg on Saturday 1 March. He brought up several possible solutions for the problems:
“At the Nordic Prime Ministers summer meeting in Finland last year it was decided to set a globalisation initiative in motion in Nordic co-operation. The climate, environment and energy are all central issues in this context also. The Nordic Prime Ministers intention with this initiative is to make use of the potential available in Nordic co-operation with a view to developing and marketing new technological solutions that will contribute to the fight against climate changes”.
The conference, which was attended by about 100 people, was organised by the Nordic Information Office in Flensborg and the South Schleswig Voters' Committee Landtag group. The members of the Schleswig-Holstein Landtag Anke Spoorendonk and Lars Harms took part. Amongst the other speakers were Professor Bogi Hansen, a former winner of the Nordic Council Environment Prize, and SF’s climate and energy spokesperson, Anne Grete Homsgaard. Secretary General for the Nordic Council’s Danish Delegation, Henrik Hagemann was the moderator.The conference in Flensborg is also a good example of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ desire to strengthen co-operation in the Baltic Sea Region. This also involves a greater involvement in Germany and the German states. Amongst other things, Nordic seminars have previously been organised in Berlin and a decision has just been made to begin a partnership with the German think tank 'Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik’.
