UNIS – International Polar Field School in Svalbard

 UNIS_logo_white_background_RGB                             An Interdisciplinary course in Polar Studies for both Undergraduate and early Master’s students.
As an interdisciplinary introduction into environmental change in the Polar areas, this 10 ECTS / 3-week field course offers international students (from both undergraduate and graduate levels) a unique field-training experience in a high-arctic environment.
Based upon past, present and future research being done in the Arctic during the International Polar Year (IPY), students will receive a general overview of topics including geology, glaciology, permafrost, oceanography, meteorology, biology, Polar social science and management / decision making in the Polar areas. The field-school will provide hands-on activities, field-work, group work and lectures covering these main topics.

The course is conducted as a concluding part of The International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2009, and as a collaborative initiative between IPY Norway, UNIS, UArctic and the Association of Early Career Polar Scientists (APECS).
