On the request of the Arctic Council, a Contact Group composed of representatives from the Arctic Council member states and Permanent Participants’ organizations, as well as relevant international scientific organizations, has been carrying out a scoping study on mechanisms to maximize the legacy of the International Polar Year (IPY). A workshop on these issues was held at the Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) in Bergen on March 27, 2009.
