The conference is open to anyone, and not limited to outcomes of activities conducted during the International Polar Year 2007-8. It will provide an international forum for the discussion of our understanding of the current and future structure, diversity and functioning of the circumpolar region - how climate and disturbance interact in the circumpolar North, with an emphasis on terrestrial environments. Topics will include the warming and disappearing permafrost, treeline dynamics, northern peatlands/wetlands, freshwater lake ecosystems, carbon budgets, natural and anthropogenic disturbances, changes in vertebrate populations, and many others. Results of IPY 2007-8 will be placed in the context of ecological, economic and cultural sustainability of the circumpolar region under a changing climate. The conference is not restricted to IPY-funded research.

Abstract deadline: Friday, 10 September 2010.

Early registration deadline: Friday, 10 September 2010.
(reduced rate for students and northern residents)
