New Distance Learning Project in Sami Duodji Arts and Crafts

Two of the members of UArctic Thematic Network in Indigenous Arts and Crafts, Sami University College in Guovdageaidnu and Sami Educational Centere in Jokkmokk, Sweden have completed a joint education project. The project lasted one acadmic year, from August 2010 to June 2011. It was a 30 credits course in duodji (Sami arts and crafts), for which Sami University College had the pedagogical responsibility.
This was a realization of a long-standing need for university level education in duodji in the Swedish side of Sapmi. At the Sami University College there is already a Bachelor of Arts programme where during the third year a course called Duodji 2 is offered. A parallel course in Jokkmokk was organized in collaboration with the course at Sami University College in Guovdageaidnu (Kautokeino).
