Arctic Council Deputy Ministers meet in Stockholm
Deputy Ministers of the Arctic Council met in
Stockholm on May 15, 2012 together with the Permanent Participant
Organizations and Arctic Council Observers. The
meeting was chaired by the State Secretary for Foreign Policy of Sweden,
Frank Belfrage.
The representatives of the Arctic states discussed the
upcoming Kiruna Declaration, to be adopted by the Ministers of Foreign
Affairs of the Arctic Council in the Ministerial Meeting in Kiruna,
Sweden, on May 15, 2013. This will also mark the end of the first cycle
of Arctic Council chairmanships, and the new cycle starts with the next
Canadian term.
Other isssues on the Deputy Ministers' agenda were the adoption of the communication strategy for the Arctic Council, the adoption of the project 'Adaptation Actions for a Changing Arctic', final adoption documents to establish the standing Arctic Council Secretariat in Tromsø and a report from the Task Force on Marine Oil Pollution Preparedness and Response.
President Lars Kullerud and Vice President Outi Snellman represented UArctic in the meeting.
