The expedition took place in Ust Yansky region in August. It included researchers from Russia, Korea, USA, Canada, Sweden and England. “In a unique place at a depth of 100m we found rich material for the research – soft and fat tissues, fur, bone marrow of mammoth”, said the expedition leader, director of NEFU Mammoth Museum Semyon Grigoriyev.
According to Professor
Hwang Woo-Suk
, head of Sooam Biotech, the living cells could be used in cloning.
“The expedition has strengthened the contacts between researchers from different countries. These data will be published in prestigious scientific journals. Detailed video record will be shown on the National Geographic channel next year”, said one of the expedition members. The meeting ended with signing of an agreement of scientific cooperation.
