Sixth Symposium on Polar Law

University of Akureyri
Held over four days and hosted by the University of Akureyri, the 6th Symposium on Polar Law will begin in Akureyri on October 11th before moving on to the Arctic Circle open assembly at Harpa, Reykjavik, October 12th to 14th, 2013.
Symposium session and panel topics include: Arctic Politics and Law - New Opportunities and the Role of the Arctic Council; the Arctic Council and Arctic Governance; Arctic Resource Development: Arctic Energy meets Polar Law; Civil-Military Operations in the Arctic - Past, Present, Future; Implications of Private Investment in the Arctic, including Multi-Nationals and Navigation in the Many Domestic and International Legal Regimes; Human Rights; Law of the Sea; Indigenous Peoples’ Rights; Environmental Law, including Access to Justice and the Aarhus Convention.
