In the meeting the Board took key decisions on UArctic’s Strategic Implementation Plan for 2014-16 and UArctic’s new organizational structure and key appointments. In particular, UArctic will now have six Vice- Presidents to support the President in his work. The new Vice-President appointments made by the Board are:

Dr. Kari Laine as UArctic Vice-President Research (University of Oulu, Finland)

Dr. John Eichelberger as UArctic Vice-President Academic (University of Alaska, Fairbanks)

Marina Kalinina as UArctic Vice-President Interregional Cooperation (Northern Arctic Federal University, Russia)
 
During the meeting the Board also elected Board member Tove Søvndahl Gant from the Greenland government representation in Copenhagen as the new Vice-Chair of the Board, and Gary Kachanoski, President of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, was appointed Chair of the Board’s Finance Policy Committee.
 
In addition to the Board’s business meetings, Umeå University and UArctic organized an open research seminar on April 23, 2014, with guest speakers Gustaf Lind, the Swedish Senior Arctic Official of the Arctic Council, and Mikael Anzen, the Co-Vice Chair of the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group.
