Graduate field course "Understanding the Human Dimensions of Long-term Environmental Change", Iceland, 5-15 June 2015
Application round is open for a unique graduate course "Understanding the Human Dimensions of Long-term Environmental Change: Transformations of Iceland from the Viking Era through the late Medieval Period (CE 850-1500)". The field course is organized in Bárðardalur, Northern Iceland on June 5-15, 2015. Apply by March 15.
Aimed at master's and doctoral-level students, this intensive graduate course addresses questions of long‐term societal resilience in the face of climate change, competition and societal conflict over natural resources, effects of early globalization and anthropogenic transformation of landscapes and ecosystems at multiple timescales.
This course integrates the following academic disciplines and fields:
- Environmental Archeology
- Digital and Environmental Humanities
- Historical Ecology
- Environmental History
- Environmental Anthropology
- Saga Studies
- Palaeoecology
- Literary Ecocriticism
All course lectures, readings, discussions and writing will be in English.
Cost: $2,950 per person includes room and board, excursions, lectures, and on-site materials. Please note that airfare and other transportation costs are NOT included.
