The indigenous festival "Ikenipke" will take place in Irkutsk

The “Ikenipke” festival is aimed at revival of national traditions, it offers an opportunity to meet the folklore, culture, songs and games of Tofalars and Evenks, the indigenous peoples of the Russian Far East.

The festival program includes various activities and competitions: the best traditional dwelling "Siberian Land", traditional songs and dances, arts and crafts exhibition, performances of creative groups, national cuisine master classes with tasting of traditional dishes and drinks, as well as the beauty contest "Taiga Beauty" and "Taiga Hero."

The round table "Preservation and development of traditional culture of indigenous peoples of the Baikal region" will be also organized during this festival. The round table participants plan to discuss the role of ethnic and cultural centers in the preservation of language and culture, as well as issues of ethno-cultural tourism as a major factor of economic development of local communities with compact residence of indigenous peoples.
