Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) based in the Russian city of Vladivostok is one of UArctic's newest members. Following their participation in the recent Rectors' Forum in Umeå, FEFU has now officially signed the UArctic Charter, endorsing all our higher education principles.

UArctic president Lars Kullerud welcomed the signing, "Far Eastern Federal University is an important member for UArctic both because of it is a dynamic institution in a key region of the circumpolar North, and also strengthens the number of Russian federal universities in our network to five."

FEFU is one of the Russia’s leading centers of education and science, known throughout the region for its unique campus and world-class infrastructure. In FEFU we strive to combine the traditions of the classical university with innovation across disciplines.

FEFU enjoys a rapidly growing number of international faculty, and has recently doubled the number of incoming foreign students, who come to us from the USA, Japan, China, Korea, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Germany and other countries.

As part of their involvement in the UArctic network, FEFU will be supporting the development of research analytic tools that will enable us to better document and demonstrate scientific collaboration between our members.

FEFU President Sergey Ivanets commented: “FEFU has significant legacy in developing technologies for use in the Arctic regions. We are moving in several directions in the Arctic research: from developing center of excellence in Arctic marine know-hows as well as becoming one of the key centers for socio-political research in Eastern and Pacific Arctic. I am sure, we will positively contribute to the work of UArctic members and the tasks that UArctic is solving.”
