Michael Sfraga, co-lead of the UArctic Institute for Arctic Policy, has been appointed as the new director of the Wilson Center’s revitalized Polar Initiative. The Wilson Center is the only think tank in Washington to house a broad-based initiative on the Arctic.

The Polar Initiative Action Plan will convene and foster discussion, research, and programmatic activity on Arctic and Antarctic issues with the purpose of raising awareness among national and international policymakers about polar-related issues.

"I believe having Mike in such a central position in Washington DC, with an insight into and understanding of UArctic, will be very valuable to us and the Arctic at large," says UArctic President Lars Kullerud.

Michael Sfraga is presently Vice Chancellor for University and Student Advancement at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
