Jåhkåmåhkke Declaration from the World Reindeer Herders' Congress in Sweden, 2017

As an outcome of the 6th World Reindeer Herders' Congress, the participating reindeer herders - representatives of their regions and peoples - have released the Jåhkåmåhkke Declaration. This document outlines the reindeer herding peoples' concerns and opinions on matters related to their lives and livelihoods.

The declaration covers the following topics:

  • Education, indigenous languages, research and management
  • Economic development, youth, food culture and crafts
  • Biodiversity, protected areas and traditional indigenous knowledge
  • Fragmentation of grazing lands
  • Health and well-being
  • Taiga reindeer herding
  • International collaboration and information
