International workshop “Siberia in a global context. Winter weather and climate extremes: how can researchers, authorities and local people work together to record, predict and adapt?”

The II annual international workshop of the Siberian Environmental Change Network (SecNet) "Siberia in a global context. Winter weather and climate extremes: how can researchers, authorities and local people work together to record, predict and adapt?will take place October 31 – November 5, 2017 in the city of Salekhard (Russia).

The workshop is organized by the Tomsk State University together with the Government of Yamal-Nenets autonomous district and with the support of UK SIN Russia and the UK Embassy in Russia.

The workshop aims at:

- bringing researchers, local authorities as well as indigenous representatives together to exchange information on extreme weather events and their impact on nature and society.

- learning how to respond to local challenges with appropriate adaptation strategies.

Within the framework of the workshop it is planned to discuss the results of interdisciplinary scientific research.

Presentations of the leading experts will be followed by open discussions on partner sites in Salekhard.
