Joint project on curriculum development for interdisciplinary Master’s program “STEP into Russian Arctic”
University of Tyumen (Russia) and Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law (NIEM) of the University of Lapland (Finland) will start a joint project to promote curriculum development and educational cooperation. Professor Elena Gladun (project lead) has developed the project with the support from Professor Kamrul Hossain from NIEM, as part of the activities within the framework of the UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Law.
The central idea of the project is to design a multinational interdisciplinary Master’s degree program “STEP into Russian Arctic”. The core objective of the project is to offer students a broad understanding about the Russian Arctic for governing, making business and research, and to get them involved into scientific and industrial large-scale projects in Russian Arctic territories. The program will become an umbrella for international network of researchers and teachers engaged in Arctic issues.
The project is funded by V. Potanin Foundation in Russian Federation. The implementation period of the project will be 2019-2020, and it will be hosted at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tyumen. The other partners of the project are the University of Southern Denmark and the Arctic Research Center of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District.
