The course shows how tourism businesses in the Arctic can be developed and practiced in a way that respects Indigenous and other local cultures. The course contents can also be applied to other regions beyond the Arctic.
The course can be studied at the student's own pace. It includes, among others, videos, Prezis, blog posts, self-reflective exercises and quizzes. The practical examples of the course come from Finnish Lapland, northern Sweden and Norway, Greenland and northern Canada. The examples can be applied to other regions as well.
The course language is English. The course is intended primarily for Arctic tourism entrepreneurs and their employees. It is also well suited for anyone else working in tourism including tourism students who want to promote culturally sustainable tourism that respects Indigenous peoples and other local cultures.
The course extent is 1 credit, which means that it will take about 27 hours to complete it. The student will receive a certificate of completion of the course.
