Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) organize a joint research seminar focused on various sustainability themes. The seminar invites researchers and other interested guests to discuss and debate topical sustainability research.

When: 13.12 at 15.00-16.00 UTC +3 (Coffee served on-site from 14:30 and discussion from 16:00-16:30)

Where: Viikki Latokartanonkaari 9, A-building, Room A4, 1th floor and MS Teams (link here)

This seminar series brings together sustainability research done on the Viikki campus at the University of Helsinki. In Autumn 2022 the focus is "Materiality in social ecological systems". Three scarce resources are examined in the series: minerals, biomass and water. The extraction, management and conservation of these all take place in a social ecological system, and our dependence on the ecosystems providing us these resources is a fundamental starting point for sustainability analyses.

By analyzing scarcity, circularity and impacts, sustainability science helps the optimizing, deliberating, planning and steering of material flows in social-ecological systems. On December 13th, we'll have three speakers diving into the topic of water resource flows.

Chair: Susanna Lehvävirta, HELSUS Director
