The blog post "Reindeer are far more important to the Sámi than most people realise!" is written by doctoral researcher Tamara Hiltunen on her perceptions on what reindeer mean to the Sámi.
Tamara Hiltunen from the University of Oulu is conducting her research on the foraging ecology of reindeer in Finland and the Arctic. She hopes that the findings of her research will help preserve the delicate balance between the fragile ecosystems, the reindeer and the Sámi reindeer herding culture and lifestyle.

Wildlife Genomics Group is an international group of people studying ecological, evolutionary, and conservation questions related to wildlife. At the moment, the group consists of 14 core members working at the Departments of Ecology and Genetics. In addition to research, the group members are involved tightly in the education of biology students.
