Recruitment for salaried positions at the University of Lapland completed

Two members of the UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Law were selected for the positions in the University of Lapland’s Graduate School Doctoral Programme, “The Arctic in a Changing World”.

Karolina Sikora, who is also the vice-chair of the Arctic Law Thematic Network, will start her position on the 1st of December 2022. Karolina works as a grant-based researcher at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, where she is affiliated with the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law and with the Arctic Anthropology Research Team. In her research, Karolina studies the reality of law in the Russian North. She is particularly interested in how the right to cultural heritage is realized among indigenous Izhma Komi peoples. In her dissertation, she combines legal analysis with an empirical approach involving fieldwork research.

Punam Noor is a member of the Arctic Law Thematic Network, will start her position on the 1st of June 2022. She works as a coordinator for the EDUFI funded project Interdisciplinary Curricula on Indigenous and Tribal peoples’ studies at the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, where she is affiliated with the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law. In her research, Punam focuses on the Arctic Indigenous Peoples' knowledge and its contribution to the shaping of the international climate law framework. She takes a critical standpoint from the Third World Approach to International Law (TWAIL) in her research.
