Valeriia Makeionok is a second-year Master's Degree student from the University of Lapland, pursuing the Northern Tourism programme. Valeriia has a previous background in tourism, management and international communications.
Her enthusiasm to become a part of the UArctic International Secretariat is driven by her passion to learn more about Arctic issues and actively work within the Arctic community.
"Once I moved to the Arctic two years ago, I immediately realised that this is my place to be. The Arctic is so diverse and beautiful – a place that has a lot to offer. I particularly admire the sense of community here in the way people address the important issues related to the Arctic. I want to learn from that and use my experience and knowledge to contribute to the Arctic development," says Valeriia.
At the UArctic International Secretariat Valeriia holds the position of Events Coordinator intern. The main tasks will be associated with supporting and planning various UArctic events, such as UArctic Congress 2024 and UArctic Assembly Meeting 2024. Valeriia will be also responsible for maintaining UArctic’s news portals and social media feeds.
