During Climate Week NYC—which ran from September 22 to September 29—Dartmouth, UArctic, and the Finnish Consulate partnered together to host an event that focused on climate tipping points and their relation to the Arctic.

Climate Week NYC is an international conference that provides a space for leaders to discuss climate issues and aims to progress the conversation and drive transitional solutions. The event, Climate Tipping Points and the Arctic: Urgency for Policy, was put together by UArctic, their member institution, Dartmouth, and the Finnish Consulate, with a wide array of speakers and attendants. Together, they delved into how the Arctic must play a part in tackling the effects of climate change by hosting two panel discussions that were attended by over 70 people including NATO leadership, U.N. delegates, Arctic Indigenous group delegates, Dartmouth alumni, and other Arctic-based representatives.

The speakers at the panel discussions urged that climate action requires a diverse array of voices and policy makers, investments for our future, collaboration between stakeholders, and strong implementation of a green transition. There was special focus on the importance of including Indigenous voices in climate conversations, and to uplift young voices in conversation as they have the most at stake with our collective future.
