Building Stronger Arctic Health Networks: Meeting in Nuuk

Group Foto Network Project Nuuk Meeting 2025 (1)

Partner meeting to continue the work and discussions on the project: Strengthening Arctic Health Networks through Partnerships and Mentorship Program.

Ealier this October, Nuuk became the hub for collaboration and dialogue on Arctic health. On October 6–7, 2025, partners of the UArctic project “Strengthening Arctic Health Networks through Partnerships and Mentorship Program” gathered for an inspiring two-day meeting, held alongside the NunaMed Conference (October 3–5).
The meeting brought together researchers, Indigenous representatives, and policy actors to strengthen connections across the Arctic. Highlights included a visit from the Arctic Council Chairship and active participation from representatives of the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) and the Sámi Council, ensuring Indigenous voices remain central to shaping health research and policy.
Discussions focused on how to build sustainable partnerships, to advance mentorship opportunities, and to connect young researchers with experienced scholars across Arctic regions. Breakout sessions explored the questions:

•    What is our shared vision for Arctic health and well-being?
•    How can we strengthen education and mentorship across borders?
•    What practical steps can we take to implement internships and address challenges identified in the mentorship pilot project?

The meeting also featured dialogue with representatives from the Government of Greenland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Research, highlighting health and well-being as a priority during the Arctic Council Chairship and the need for stronger links between research and policy.
This gathering marked an important step toward building resilient networks and partnerships where research, education and Indigenous knowledge are supported. By working together, partners aim to create opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and action that will shape the future of health and well-being across the Arctic.
