Recruiting and maintaining police officers in northern Norway

Stavern (13 Av 29) (1)

The Norwegian Police University College has embarked on an innovative program to recruit and maintain police officers in northern Norway.

This is a three-year pilot that will have influence not only police education in the North, but the way Norwegian Police University College delivers police education on the campuses in the south as well.

The Police Education program in Alta has 24 study places and is session-based. This means that students will meet for four sessions each semester, with the rest of the teaching conducted digitally. Unlike other study locations, the program in Alta will largely consist of self-study, and it is expected that you take more responsibility for your own learning.

The sessions will be held at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Alta. The Police Education program is a mix of theoretical and practical studies, and students in Alta will learn the same as those studying in Oslo, Stavern, and Bodø. In the first and third years, you will attend study sessions in Alta and study from home the rest of the time. In the second year, you will complete the internship year and get a placement in one of the three northernmost police districts.
