Dr Frederik Paulsen, Chair of the UArctic Board, has been awarded the 2025 Albert I Great Medal in the Mediation category by the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco.

The Albert I Great Medal for Mediation recognizes individuals from civil society who work with the general public and political and economic decision-makers to make the oceans known, loved, and protected. Dr Paulsen received the award in acknowledgment of his work as a polar explorer, philanthropist, and for raising awareness of climate issues in the polar regions.

The Albert I Great Medals have been awarded since 1948, with the Mediation category introduced in 2014.

The 2024/2025 award ceremony was held at the Maison de l'Océan in Paris on December 8, 2025.
