UArctic x LRF Research Fellow Dr Bahareh Kamranzad participated in the recent Scottish Arctic Network conference (ScAN) hosted by the University of St Andrews, which brought together around 70 participants from across Scotland, including academic members, partners, and policy stakeholders.

As one of four Regional Centres supported by UArctic, ScAN plays a key role in connecting Arctic-related research and education across Scotland. The conference provided a valuable platform to showcase ongoing work, strengthen collaborations, and align future priorities within the wider UArctic framework.

During the research showcase, Dr Kamranzad presented her work on marine heatwaves, highlighting emerging challenges in marine systems under climate change and its impact on navigational safety.

The programme also included contributions from the Scottish Government on the ongoing review of the Arctic Connections Policy Framework. A panel session on UArctic Thematic Networks further highlighted opportunities for international collaboration.

The conference highlighted the continued momentum of Arctic research and education in Scotland and the critical role of initiatives such as the UArctic LRF in supporting emerging leaders in the field.
