Call for Papers: Special Theme on Changing Arctic Coasts Now Open
A new Special Theme, “Changing Arctic Coasts: Physical Drivers, Coastal Resilience, Governance and Socio-Ecological Impacts” is now open for submissions in Cambridge Prisms: Coastal Futures, published by Cambridge University Press.
The collection seeks interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary contributions connecting the physical drivers of Arctic coastal change, including sea-ice loss, permafrost thaw, sea-level rise and coastal erosion, with their socio-ecological impacts, community resilience, adaptation and governance dimensions. In anticipation of the Fifth International Polar Year (IPY-5, 2032–33), the collection particularly welcomes work on community-based long-term coastal observing systems, Indigenous-led and community-led research, equitable knowledge co-production, Indigenous data sovereignty, and evidence-informed, inclusive governance of Arctic coastal change.
Zia Madani, Assistant Professor of International Law at the University of Tsukuba and vice-lead and member of the UArctic Thematic Networks on Science Diplomacy, Polar Research Cooperation and Diplomacy, and Arctic Law is serving as one of the Guest Editors of this Special Theme, taking a lead role on the Governance and Socio-Ecological Impacts strand. He joins: Dr. Bahareh Kamranzad (University of Strathclyde, UK), Prof. Takuji Waseda (The University of Tokyo, Japan), and Prof. Claudio Aporta (World Maritime University, Sweden).
The editorial team encourages submissions on topics including Indigenous governance, rights and knowledge systems; science–policy interfaces and science diplomacy; law of the sea implications of changing coastlines, baselines and maritime zones; integrated coastal zone management; transboundary Arctic governance; and co-management and equitable knowledge co-production, alongside submissions addressing the physical and socio-ecological dimensions of coastal change. Researchers at all career stages, including early-career researchers, are welcome to contribute.
