UArctic represented at EU Arctic Forum 2026

UArctic President Lars Kullerud and Executive Vice-President Jouko Niinimäki are participating in the forum, together with UArctic Vice-President Networks Kirsi Latola, Co-director of the Arctic Six at the University of Oulu, Finland, who has been invited to speak as a keynote speaker representing the Arctic Six.

On 2 September, Kirsi Latola will take part in the “Arctic Research and Science in focus: The EU perspective” session, featuring keynote speeches and a chaired discussion with Charlina Vitcheva, Director-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at the European Commission; Joanna Drake, Deputy Director-General, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission; and Romain Troublé, Executive Director of Fondation Tara Ocean.

Arctic Six (A6), which serves as a UArctic Regional Centre in the Nordic Arctic, brings together six leading universities in the European Arctic and supports collaboration and engagement across the region. Arctic Six is also present at the forum with a booth.

On 2 September, Lars Kullerud will deliver a keynote on Arctic research and science from 09:00–09:10, together with Charlina Vitcheva, Director-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at the European Commission.

The EU Arctic Forum brings together Arctic Indigenous Peoples, youth, policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the future of the Arctic and strengthen dialogue and cooperation.
