Arctic Centre, University of Lapland
Arctic Centre is a national and international hub of Arctic research and expertize. Besides multidisciplinary research it focuses in active science communications, societal interaction and runs a science center.
Arctic Centre, established 1989, is a research institute at the University of Lapland and located at the Arktikum House. It has a personnel of about 50-60, including reseachers, science communications, science centre and administration.
Multidisciplinary Arctic reseach operates under five groups: global change, sustainable development, Arctic governance, Arctic anthropology, Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law.
Arctic Centre has a number of national and international expert tasks. Science communication runs Finland´s leading Arctic conference series Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference, and popularizes Arctic information. Science centre has over 100 000 visitors annually. There is also an Arctic library.
Arktikum House has facilities for meetings, seminars and conferences. The iconic building is a well-known tourist attraction.
