Marine Bioprocessing Facility

Maximizing the utilization of processing discards from the fishing and aquaculture industries in Atlantic Canada.

The Marine Bioprocessing Facility is a 270 square meter research and pilot plant facility established in response to the substantial quantities of processing discards generated by the fishing and aquaculture industries in Atlantic Canada. It is equipped with a range of extraction, concentrating, and drying equipment, as well as extrusion processing equipment and a 208-liter batch biodiesel processor. The facility's mandate is to optimize each step of the value chain, starting with the characterization, handling, and stabilization of underutilized materials. These materials can be further processed into high-end bio-products, including omega-3 concentrates, biofuels, and nutritional supplements.
