Ceporah Mearns is Inuk, from Panniqtuuq, Nunavut, but lives in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She is a mother of two, an educator, and a researcher. Since 2020, she has held the role of Director of the Nunavut NEIHR, at Qaujigiartiit Health Research Centre, where she supports Inuit graduate students and developed a 5-day graduate-level course that centres on Inuit Ilisaijjusiit(Inuit methods of teaching). Ceporah’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University, a Bachelor of Education from Nunavut Arctic College/University of Regina, and a certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalization from the Qimattuvik Program at the Pirurvik Centre in Iqaluit. In addition to being a UArctic Indigenous Fellow, Ceporah is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College, USA, and was a King Charles III Coronation Medal Recipient in 2025. In her free time, Ceporah is also a seamstress, avid knitter, and enjoys spending time on the land with her family.
