Third International Winter Academy to take place in Rovaniemi in May 2007

The Third Winter Academy for researchers and PhD students will contribute to interdisciplinary, cultural studies of new work and labour in tourism, travelling, and other mobile worlds, adressing the issues of tourism, travelling, hospitality, new work and mobility through a variety of disciplines and schools of thoughts.

 

The event will feature a combination of key notes lectures from invited researchers from various countries, as well as three parallel workshops - Landscapes of Work, Performances of Work, and Market-Related Work, where both senior scholars and PhD students will be equally welcomed to present their work-in-progress.

 

The Third International Winter Academy is organized by the Tourism at Work project. Funded by the Academy of Finland and led by University of Lapland's Acting Professor of Cultural Studies of Tourism Soile Veijola, the research project aims at conducting concrete cultural research on tourism work encompassing practices, skills, knowledge and social arrangements produced and negotiated in institutionalised tourism.

 

Previous Winter Academies have been held at the University of Lapland in 2003 and 2004, under the themes of Landscapes of Presence and Hostilities and Hospitalities, respectively.
