The main responsibilities of the new Vice-President Research are to
develop and oversee UArctic’s research strategy. Among the goals are
to increase research cooperation between UArctic member universities
and research organizations, improve opportunities and conditions for
research funding, and to promote cooperation with international
science organizations.

The Vice-President Research will be supported by the UArctic Thematic
Networks Office. Additional capacity will be provided with the support
of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture from 2015. The
UArctic Thematic Networks Office has been hosted by the Thule
Institute since 2005, and the extra support will allow a small
increase to its staffing capacity.

The University of the Arctic (UArctic) is a cooperative network of 170
universities, colleges, and other organizations committed to higher
education and research in the North. Our members share resources,
facilities, and expertise to build post-secondary education programs
that are relevant and accessible to northern students. Our overall
goal is to create a strong, sustainable circumpolar region by empowering northerners and northern communities through education and shared knowledge.
