Five Arctic universities, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Umeå University, Luleå University of Technology, University of Oulu and University of Lapland formed a new collaboration called Arctic5 in summer 2018. The goals of the collaboration are to develop a joint online course on inclusive education, to share expertise between the universities, to strengthen the Nordic cooperation and to create possibility for students for networking and achieving broad Nordic approach in educational research.
The first workshop of developing the Arctic 5 online study course was held on 10-11 October, 2018 in Tromso, Norway. The goal of the workshop was to develop a basis of the curriculum for the “Arctic Inclusive Pedagogy Master Study Course” (10 ECTS).
In the first day of workshop, the working group defined a mutual understanding on inclusion, which is the core of the joint course. After that, the group started creating the curriculum. In the next day, the group discussed about existing online study courses and how the practicalities were organized in them. In the second day of the workshop, the group also finished the first draft of the curriculum.
The workshop was successful and productive – the first workshop achieved its goal and the basis for the online study course is now created. The work continues in January, when the Arctic 5 group gets together in Rovaniemi to continue developing the course.
