Over 130 participants from UArctic's member institutions attended the Council meeting at Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology from Sept 18-20, 2019, from 14 countries both in the Circumpolar North and from outside the region.

This year's Council meeting has a significant emphasis on the future direction of the network. Among the issues discussed are UArctic's new Strategic Plan 2020-2030 and the changing UArctic's legal status to a registered non-profit association.

The Calotte Academy 2019 has been postponed to 12-19 November, 2019 and is planned to be organized in the European Arctic — Inari and Hetta, Finland; Kautokeino, Norway; Apatity, Russia (tbc.).

The Arctic Frontiers Science Committees invite abstracts for Arctic Frontiers Science 2020. Arctic Frontiers 2020 will convene 26-30 January 2020, while Arctic Frontiers Science will run 28-30 January 2020, in Tromsø, Norway.  


Extended deadline. To stimulate academic research and to strengthen cultural exchanges and promote academic cooperation in snow and ice architecture HIT, UArctic and the IASS Working Group 21 have organized the 2019 HIT International Ice and Snow Architecture Innovation Design and Construction Competition.



A field-based training course for graduate/post-doc level snow scientists on state-of-the-art snow measurement techniques will take place at Col du Lautaret, France from February 16th through the 22nd. The focus topic for the year is "Snow in a changing climate, impact on humans and nature".
