PhD course on new technologies and local perspectives in Arctic health research at Ilisimatusarfik completed
Despite the persistent corona situation, the Greenland Centre for Health Research at Ilisimatusarfik managed to hold an international PhD course again this year. A total of 18 participants attended the course.
Participants came from Canada, Russia, Denmark, Norway and Greenland. Half of the students met in the auditorium of the Pikialaarfik building and the other half tuned in from the rest of the world via the course's virtual platform. The course could therefore easily be held within the current assembly limit of 20 people in Nuuk.
The course was made possible by a grant from the University of the Arctic and planned in collaboration between three research communities, all part of the Centre. These are the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland, Institute of Nursing & Health Science (Ilisimatusarfik) and the Center for Public Health in Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik and the National Institute of Public Health, SDU).
The course focused on the implementation of health promotion interventions, diabetes research, user involvement, researcher positioning, complex interventions and the use of artificial intelligence in health research. The course also coincided with World Diabetes Day, so participants set off together on a cold walk as part of the Global Diabetes Walk 2021 initiative.
