Student story: Mathilde Gregersen Boeriis' spring semester in Nuuk
Mathilde reflects on her semester in Nuuk learning about the effects of climate change in an Arctic environment.
My name is Mathilde, I’m a masters student in Biology at Aarhus University in Denmark. I was fortunate to receive the north2north scholarship, which made it financially possible for me to travel to Nuuk, Greenland, and participate in the Arctic Science Study Program (ASSP) during the spring semester of 2025.
As someone deeply interested in climate change, I find the Arctic particularly important to investigate and understand. It’s a place where the effects of global warming are especially visible, which is both interesting and alarming.
The most impactful part of the exchange was seeing, in real life, the things we usually only read about in textbooks. Experiencing such a harsh, remote, and almost hostile environment – and still finding so much life to study – was both fascinating and humbling.
The scholarship played an important role in enabling my participation, especially by covering the travel expenses to and from Greenland. Without it, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity might not have been possible for me.
Thank you again for the support. I would highly recommend this program to other students who are curious about the Arctic and eager to gain both scientific and cultural insights through hands-on experience.
