Introducing the Registry of Polar Observing Networks (RoPON)

Ropon Logo 2025 Lowres

The Registry of Polar Observing Networks (RoPON) is a resource that brings together information on observing systems and organizations across the Arctic, Antarctic, and Southern Oceans.

RoPON serves as a comprehensive catalog of networks that coordinate or support polar observation and monitoring. It provides key information on each network, including scope, geographic coverage, partners, and access to related data and infrastructure.

Developed through a collaboration between the Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) initiative, the Arctic Portal, and the University of Colorado Boulder, with support from SAON and the NOAA GOMO Arctic Research Program, RoPON is designed as a growing, distributed platform. Authorized network representatives can contribute and update content, helping ensure the registry remains current and relevant.

By improving the visibility and accessibility of polar observing efforts, RoPON supports better coordination, collaboration, and informed decision-making across scientific, operational, and community contexts.

For more information, please contact William Manley (william.manley@colorado.edu) at the University of Colorado Boulder or Halldór Jóhannsson (halldor@arcticportal.org) at the ArcticPortal.org.
