Qaggiq Discussions on Schools and Schooling at the UArctic Congress
Diane Hirshberg and Kathy Snow, members of the UArctic Thematic Network for Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity, coordinated an open session entitled "Qaggiq: Facilitating Discussions on Schools and Schooling", which received an unprecedented number of proposals.
At the session, nine approaches towards Indigenous education, both formal and informal, were shared, with perspectives from five different countries and fostering active discussion among participants and audience members.
Some of the participants included discussions of the SILA Bachelor of Biology program at the University of Greenland; the Nunavut Sivuniksauvut program from Nunavik, Canada; Digital tools for language development through the Lohkanlihkku project located across Sápmi; and a student service project for wellbeing from Nunavut, Canada.
