The Thematic Network on Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD) played an active role in the Arctic Arts Summit 2026 in Umeå, Sweden, bringing together artists, researchers, educators, and cultural practitioners to explore the relationships between art, education, knowledge, communities, and Land.

Since 2012, Emerging Leaders has been an early-career Arctic mentoring program for leaders from 18 to 35 years old. The program brings together 30 young leaders from the academic, business, public and NGO sectors to learn about the Arctic in a thrilling journey through Northern Norway.

The exhibition is part of the Thematic Network on Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD) exhibition series "Parallel North: Shared Ecocultural Entanglements", which explores northern and Arctic phenomena from an ecocultural perspective. 


Through the UArctic Thematic Network on Youth, two UArctic Chairs from Memorial University highlight how interdisciplinary collaboration, Indigenous partnerships, community engagement, and mentorship can help address complex Arctic challenges and inspire the next generation of Northern researchers.

Students and mentors are invited to take part in a new initiative exploring how artificial intelligence can address real-world challenges and opportunities in the Arctic.

The Calotte Academy 2027, with the theme “The Role and Values of Science for Stability and Governance in the Global Arctic,” is planned to take place from 24 to 31 January 2027 in several destinations in the European Arctic and Sápmi. The deadline for applications is on 19 October 2026.
